The Innisfail District Court serves the Cassowary Coast region of north Queensland. It provides a venue for serious criminal matters and higher-value civil disputes in the Innisfail district, beyond what the Magistrates Court handles.
Types of Criminal Cases Commonly Heard
Typical matters before the Innisfail District Court include:
- Serious indictable offences not suitable for Magistrates Court (for example major assaults, significant fraud or drug-trafficking matters)
- Criminal cases requiring jury trial
- Civil disputes between around A$150,000 up to approximately A$750,000 in value.
