The Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC) is situated at Spring Creek in the Lockyer Valley Region, approximately 94 km west of Brisbane. The centre was commissioned in January 2012 and operates as a secure facility for female inmates, accommodating both high and low-security classifications.

Key Features & Operational Context

  • SQCC provides accommodation for sentenced mainstream female prisoners as well as those on remand.
  • In July 2021, the facility officially transitioned from private to public operation, under the management of Queensland Corrective Services.
  • The facility has been subject to inspection reports highlighting areas for improvement in health services, training programs and humane management of inmates, including in safety units.
